If the percentage of millionaires in France is low, I would think the French would want to know why in hell there are so little of them around, instead of punishing them for being millionaires.
This guy is obviously fine with the idea of keeping the French average at best (equally worthless), and is in fact is giving them incentives to remain mediocre and no more than average on the back of the people who worked hard to earn their money. If the rich in France got their money illegally, it's the law you want after them, not the tax man.
Taxing people at a rate of 70% for being millionaires is equivalent to punishing them for working hard to make their money and be on top instead of average.

As long as we have people who think like Hollande leading Madagascar, we will go nowhere, will produce nothing noticeable, will invent nothing, and will keep begging other countries for assistance and money. Madagascar will remain a country where all are equally worthless.

I do not share the same view of your opinion on certain fields like 75 % millionaire's taxes without giving a solid evidence nor a keyfact of french national benefit's revenue although I appreciate your courage to defend it. It will be voted by the financial comission (french national assembly) before the new amendment become legal tax law, It will not threaten any foreign market investors or local financial business institution (national - international financial market) only regenerate a generous sum of 200 - 300 million euros a year for the national tax revenue. A new policy that ends up millionaire's dream(tax exemption) that's clever, Mr. Holland Finance Minister has still a lot to do with the Trade Union (if he was Malagasy I would have voted for him)

Mr. Hollande has got a hell lot of the challenges ahead of him (current affairs, diplomatic and international plan for his administration, national assembly election...) who know if he ever changes his mind about the multi-millionaire's taxes, I doubt it.

You want facts? I'll give you facts:
Japan, a small string of islands, prone to fucked-up natural disaster (not counting Godzilla), no natural resources, two cities blown to smithereens by US nukes 6 decades ago. They have more millionaires than France taxed at a maximum rate of 40%, the unemployment rate is below 6%.

Of all Western Europe, France probably has the lowest number of millionaires already (hence Hollande's misguided statement that getting rid of them won't change the economy much - it might be true, but there are consequences ), an unemployment rate higher than 9.5%, and plans on taxing the remaining millionaires a rate of 70% as if the country was at war.

The US, highest number of millionaires in the world who don't get taxed more than 35%, fighting two decade old wars while avoiding an economic depression, unemployment rate going from near 10% in 2010 to 8.5% after only 2 years.

OK, France has a great social safety net, probably one of the best in the world in terms of benefits. And I guess that's what the French want to keep. That's fine, but is it really sustainable on the long term?

I'm definitely for a higher standard of living, but by being able to afford it is even more important I would say. Legally stealing money from millionaires to pay off luxuries that you otherwise would not have is not morally right. If the country allows you to become rich, it's only normal that you would give back and give others opportunities to be rich also. Taxing the millionaires below 45%, and opening up opportunities for the French to become insanely rich if they invent and produce something useful for example, would make more sense, and would motivate entrepreneurship, and that in turn would decrease the unemployment number, while increasing the prosperity of the able and willing working citizens.
Workers unions although they have their usefulness, do in the long term increase the cost of doing business sometimes to the point of insolvency, and that has to be addressed by the French. Sarkozy I think had the right ideas, but his problem was that he had a character problem. He was a total jackass without class, and that in turn made him an ineffective leader.
